State-of-the-code-in-africa

State of the Code in Africa

The implementation, monitoring and enforcement of national measures which give effect to the
International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and subsequent World Health Assembly
Resolutions been identified as an area of priority action in the area of infant and young child feeding (IYCF).

Over 2014/5, IBFAN Africa, in collaboration with IBFAN-ICDC, undertook a project to see how countries
served by IBFAN-Africa are faring with Code implementation and where they are already laws in place,
whether they are being monitored and enforced.

This landscape review necessitated an assessment of existing legal and policy framework in 32 countries in
Africa and culminated in this 76 page report.

This report is useful for governments, agencies and civil society groups in identifying gaps in Code implementation
and to learn from the handful of countries that have performed well.
