IBFAN’s Concerns about the Global Monitoring Mechanism

IBFAN expresses serious concerns about a new Code monitoring initiative, the Global Monitoring Mechanism (GMM), funded by the Gates Foundation (BMGF) and facilitated by the Meridian Institute. The monitoring initiative is framed as a multi-stakeholder partnership that includes corporations, including baby food companies. This violates Resolution WHA 49.15 [1996] which requires that monitoring be carried out in a transparent and independent manner, free of commercial influence. IBFAN has issued a Note of Dissent that details the reasons why it is distancing itself from the project.
